45 Five-Letter Words

Five-letter words are the currency of Wordle and a scoring workhorse in Scrabble and crosswords. The most useful ones fall into a few families: vowel-rich starters like adieu and raise that test several letters at once, words carrying high-value tiles like quake and jumbo, and tricky patterns — double letters and Y-as-the-only-vowel words — that catch players out. Keep in mind that game dictionaries differ, so a word one game accepts may be rejected in another.
